Day 5,692...

Posted on: July 24, 2008 2:08 am

in my search for a new job. So I left my last job because I hated it there. I LOVE not having to work. But I hate not having the money. I also hate the fact that someone(s) in New Jersey won the Mega Millions lotto jackpot and NOT me. Nevertheless, I continue on my exploration of Biospace and Craigslist in search of the perfect job. I have FIVE (yes FIVE) different recruiting agencies looking for jobs for me, and still nothing. I've had one "potential" job. It would have been perfect. But the company decided to promote someone from within. I ask "why even bother telling your recruiter to find candidates if you're just going to hire from within?" Lame. I also got "the company is really interested, but they're upgrading their computer systems." I mean, really?!?! So they can't do their work because their computers are being upgraded? Lame again. I've probably applied to well over 20 different positions as of right now. Maybe, just MAYBE I will get a call sometime before the end of the week. Probably not, since biotech. companies seem to be moving at a glacial pace. LOL. Well, I'm off again to search the internet for a job...yay.

Oh, and in order to alleviate the pain of looking for a job, I posted a profile on a dating website. Haha. I have also started looking to the Craigslist personal ads for comic relief. Really, you should see some of the posts on there.  =)  At least I have something to do at 4a.m. in the morning when I'm looking at the 52nd job posting for the day!

Day 5,692...

Good luck Chargersgirl.  I haven't looked for a job external to my current Company in almost twelve years, although I've had a few internal applications that are the real deal too.

Still, I've worked for seven different Companies in my career, and know the experience well.  One suggestion is to prepare for each interview (you'll get some sooner or later) with care.  Tell the recruiter and your prospective boss / colleagues why they will be a better company for hiring you.  Have fun and smile.  People hire on personality and who they think they can get along with as well as qualifications.  Do you have your job recommendations lined up?  Is your resume devoid of all spelling and gramatical errors and focused on previous accomplishments as well as job duties (not just job duties).

Be a little careful about the Web.  I heard about a job candidate that would have gotten the job, except a google search on his name revealed wild pictures and improper language associated with him.  I suggest you do a google search on your name, see what comes up, and work to fix anything that may be perceived as improper, like a topless video of you shaking your new D-s at a San Diego beach party.  I don't see anything wrong with that and in fact would hire someone for doing that, but there are a lot of prudes in this world.  I understand more and more employers are using the net to screen in this manner.

Good luck finding that special Company......

Day 5,692...

Chargergirl,

Best of luck  to you in your quest for gainful employment. To be perfectly honest, if I were you I'd milk this unemployment thing all summer long. Can't say I'm a huge fan of this whole working-career-employment thing during the summertime.

Also, Mega Millions??? Fahgettboutit!  Don't you know the ponies are running at Del Mar?
